Quality and Performance

Your Boats Radio only works as good as its Antenna. So I bought this Shakespeare for my little boat. I can trailer it without worry of it breaking and it always works!

Good antenna but easy to break the cable inside the base

This is a very good antenna with a very bad design flaw. Functionally, it works very well, but you have to use extreme caution with the installation. The cable that goes into the bottom of the antenna DOES NOT ROTATE. If you have the Shakespeare mount, remove the flat piece that holds the antenna from it's mount, screw that in the bottom of the antenna, then reinstall the flat piece on the mount and route the cable. Do not try installing the antenna by screwing it on the flat piece while it's still on the mount. This will twist the cable and break it off inside the base. There is no way to repair it after you've broken it.

Works great for my needs

I was out 20 miles in the GOM and had crystal clear communications with the coast guard to notify them of engine malfunction. This was a replacement for the same antennae that lasted about 10 years. In fact, I installed the new one myself and the reception was much better. The dealership that installed the previous radio really did a hack job, did not solder the connection and left a tangle of wire under the CC. Installation is really simple if you can follow a cook book.

Connector has to be soldered on... Great antennna.

These are great antennae. I can communicate 10 miles with other boats no problem. I only knocked off one star because they didn't tell me I had to solder the end on in the description.

3 foot VHF antenna

I had install the antenna last week and took the boat out for a test run. I had received great reception and able to communicate well. The overall quality seems to be very good and should hold up well over time
