As stated in product description, these are "Bell Jar" type protectors that keep air trapped to surround the internal electrical components when light body is submerged. Think of air trapped in a glass when placed in water with the open end down. The front lens and clear plastic "jar" must be removed to allow bulb replacements, but that only requires removing 6 small screws. Prior to mounting on my trailer, I coated all the internal metal components with dielectric grease. Will be launching in salt water in a day or two and will report how well these perform. Similar type "bell jar" units from various other mfg. have worked well for me in the past.
