So far so good!
I have owned this product for less than 24 hours as of this writing. More updates as I have more to say/remember to do them. Also, I will be very verbose, the sort of in-depth information I want when I am researching products over $99 for purchase, so you really know what's going on. Hopefully it helps, but it may be TL;DR for some. My background: I am not a smoker and never have been. I was raised by a chain smoker and have spent the majority of my life around second hand smoke from parents, family and friends. I have stress induced asthma and have also been through experimental chemotherapy that has apparently permanently damaged my lungs. Over time, my lungs are slowly degrading, and as they do I become more and more sensitive to more and more things, which trigger my lungs to get irritated and produce phlegm to coat my lungs and prevent the irritation, which causes me to cough more and more over time. (It has been a lot of fun having this sort of lung disorder during the pandemic, let me tell you.) "Well, why don't you see a doctor then?" you may reasonably ask. My experience with doctors in the past has consisted of watching both my mother and grandmother die with (no joke) 30+ prescriptions each all at once (with 3 to 5 doctors all prescribing simultaneously and admitting to me in private that A) they were not consulting with one another, and B) nobody on earth could possibly keep track of the side effects of so many prescriptions at once), and my uncle wasn't far off that number when he died. I also have repeated personal experience with the medical industry that strongly supports my experience and belief that going to the doctor is going to be a financially insane choice (whether or not I have insurance) that I get little to nothing out of regardless. So I choose to avoid doctors and the medical/drug big business establishment like the plague whenever possible. When I realized recently that my lungs were noticeably irritated all the time when I was in my own home, but I was fine if I went outside, I decided it was time to step up my game. Enter this unit, which I researched before buying. My unit is brand new, not a returned unit. Upon turning it on, it told me that my air in all areas of the house tested was as good as it gets, with a reading of 001. This did not please me, because I know it's nowhere near that good. So I did an update of the firmware to see if that would fix the issue, and it did. The new display read 005, which was significantly lower than I expected, but the unit reduced that to 3, then 2, then 1 relatively quickly. Within about 15 minutes, the air in my (door closed) office started to smell noticeably different. Lighter, cleaner, fresher, more neutral. I was surprised. I also noted that over the next few hours, my coughing decreased significantly as long as I stayed in my office. When bed time came, I put the unit in my bedroom and turned it on full blast with the doors closed while I went to the kitchen to have a snack. At first, the bedroom registered 5. The unit quickly brought it down to 1. I noted that my coughing increased when I was in parts of the house that had not had the benefit of this device to clean the air. Returning to my bedroom after my snack, I noted that once again, there was a nice difference in how the air smelled in my bedroom compared to my kitchen. Normally it takes me a while to stop coughing enough to fall asleep when I got to bed each night, but last night while there was still coughing before sleep, it was markedly less, which my girlfriend commented on today. This morning, I woke up to the pleasant realization that my lungs did not feel irritated for the first time in a long time. I hadn't even realized how irritated my lungs were when I would usually awaken until it was gone. Moved the unit into my home office again, and turned it back on. It started at 5, and again rapidly cleaned the air until it was at 1. Then I began doing more experiments. I noted that when the AC kicks on, it goes from 1 to 2 or 3. When it turns off, the unit returns it to 1. When I open the door to my office, it goes to 2, and then back to 1 when I close it. When my cat walks into my office, it goes from 1 to 2 if I close the door after him, and stays there for as long as he is moving around. If I pet him, it goes to 3. Thinking this level of sensitivity was too good to be true, I decided to try further experiments. I closed my office door again, waited until it settled down, and sprayed some air freshener in my office. No change - it evaporated. Just as expected. Then I went down the hall and into my living room and lit a stick of natural compressed sandalwood powder incense. I returned to my office and closed the door. Within 2 minutes, this unit detected the incense in the air, rising to a 4-5-6 and then back to 3 when the AC turned off. The next AC cycle, it jumped into the teens, and then into the 20's, 30's, 40's as the smoke got going during the next cycle. When the count hit 45, it turned the ring green and stepped the fan up a notch. I found that I could watch the numbers go up when the AC was on, and down when it was off. It got up to around 86 at one point, and the ring sometime before that turned orange and stepped the speed up another notch. Now that the incense has burned out, it's dropping, with highs in the 50's, and lows i the 20's and cycling lower each time the AC kicks on again. It's been interesting to see it power up and down to match the particulates in the air. Build quality seems good, but the bottom can come off easier than I'd like. A couple times now I have tried to lift it only to find that it had un-screwed and the bottom and filter were not lifted with the rest of the unit. Easily fixed in a second or less, but if the bottom had a bit of "click into place", this would not happen when moving the unit. It is so quiet in sleep mode that last night when we went to bed, after I had it running on high for a few minutes while we had our snack before bed, that even three feet from it, my girlfriend could not tell if it was running and asked. This was with the AC not active. That's pretty darned quiet. It also was no issue for me to handle, and I am extremely sensitive to sound when I am trying to sleep. The top two levels of fan speed are relatively loud, with the highest speed being louder than my AC when it's kicked in. It is, however, the most smooth and beautiful white noise I have ever encountered, and I am an audio engineer. So far my experience with this is almost entirely good. Here;s what I don't like. 1. The bottom unscrews too easily. No big deal, but irksome. 2. The sensor didn't work when I got it until I updated the firmware, which forced me to download the app, sign up, and then give the app location permissions and blue tooth permissions. I also naturally had to sign it into my wifi network. I didn't want to use the app, or give the app these permissions. The app, however, will not run without them. Ostensibly, it uses location data to give you a report on local 2.5um particulate levels in your area (which it does), but I don't know what else it is being used for, and I don't much like having my location tracked by Google and every other company on earth these days. So far so good. It appears that particulates in my house are probably not as much of an issue as what those particulates are made of, and that I need to be more focused on reducing VOCs in the air in my house. But so far this unit has helped me breathe significantly better, and I'm very happy with how well it works.

Used for 5 months, here's my review
I have used this for 5 months. I’ve used it 2.5 months in my 350 square foot bedroom, and another 2.5 months for my 650 square feet living room. Yes, I know this is rated for like 400 square feet, but here’s my review anyways. So here are the summary PROS and CONS, if you’d like to skip all the extensive details I will be going into… PROs: - Has auto sensors - Has quick timers on it that include 1h, 2h, 4h, and 8h - Has 4 fan levels - High CADR of 403, which means it is for large spaces and performs at 5x air changes per hour (ACH) at max of 403 sq ft. - Carries easily from room to room - Turn on/off display - Design/aesthetics - Price point with its features are incredibly competitive compared to products in the same exact level (as in, this would have been a lot more expensive because of its features) - Filters quite well - Keeps smoke and odor at bay - We love fan setting 2 to use for sleep - Vesync integration (Levoit’s app that controls everything by Levoit) - Alexa integration - Apple’s Home integration - Along this line, pretty sure it will connect with many other smart homes, like Google - Vesync app itself is probably in a whole other category of PROs because it’s actually really great - Vesync app tracks both indoor AND outdoor PM2.5, so you can see a history of air quality both inside and outside your house. - Vesync app lets you set up smart scenes from within the app, so you can program it to do anything when any condition is met - Vesync app has been frequently updating to be better and to support more, so there’s ongoing improvements beyond what I consider to be really great already. - No deceptive ads for this listing; it tells you exactly how many sq ft it covers based on industry standards of 5x air changes, and not based on 1x air change. CONs: - Doesn’t filter allergens as well as some other brands do, like Coway. - Another brand may be much better for people who suffer from pet allergens. - The bottom comes off sometimes when moving it around. - Vesync app does not always update air purifier immediately. - Vesync programming scenes can be finicky and not always work as intended. - Noise level on the highest setting is very loud (but so are pretty much ALL air purifiers set on highest). NEITHER Pros nor Cons: - Price of replacement filters (costs about $49.99/6-12 months) REVIEW: I REALLY wanted to love this air purifier. For the price, it had absolutely everything I wanted, especially the auto sensors and app integrations. It honestly did extremely well in almost all areas, except for the fact that as allergy-sufferers, this just did not work as well as I thought it would. My wife is the one who suffers from pet dander, pollen, and dust, and gets asthma from extremely bad air. For her, the air purifier didn’t make a difference at all. I’m pretty okay and just suffer the occasional seasonal allergies, so I couldn’t really tell if it was making a difference for me or not. All I could tell was that from the filters, I could see that fur and dust was getting sucked up. When I cleaned it every month, it collected a lot of stuff. So that’s good! On that note though, no, air purifiers are not meant for fur and won't help with fur. I used to think air purifiers helped keep the fur at a minimum, but nope, doesn't help at all. I have a husky... I still gotta vacuum every day cuz the fur is still everywhere. Anyways, the purifier would also automatically kick on when we fried food in the house or stir fried anything on a skillet. On very rare occasions, the forest fire smoke would come all the way from the next state over and the purifier would sense this smoke and also kick on. I was very happy with that. I tried this Levoit’s air purifier for a total of 5 months. 2.5 months in my 350 square foot bedroom, and another 2.5 months in my 650 square foot living room. It worked pretty much the same in both areas. I couldn’t tell much of a difference at all. However, I also tried Coway’s Airmega AP-1512HH for the same amount of time. I alternated between these two air purifiers for 2.5 months at a time in the bedroom and living room as well (total of 5 months). And Coway’s air purifier was the one that actually made a difference for my allergies. For my wife, it only helped a little, but for me, I could tell a difference in as little as 10-15 minutes when Coway’s was turned on high. Even though the Airmega was rated for 350 square feet, it still made a difference in my 650 square feet living room. The airflow on this thing is amazing as well; I could feel it's airflow on high from across the room! I have so many good things to say about Coway's Airmega, but the huge tradeoff is that it isn't Wi-fi enabled. Levoit's Wi-fi capabilities plus the app made such a big difference in convenience and scheduled cleanings, that I really wanted to hate Coway's Airmega. I can't, however, deny that Coway's helped my allergies. One day after coming home from an incredibly windy day out, we both started feeling increasingly stuffier (with headaches and migraines coming on) as the evening came to a close downstairs in the living room where the Levoit air purifier was. The sensor on the Levoit shows the air was still excellent, so we just thought we were exhausted from being outside for too long. We did not take any meds. We just headed upstairs to go to bed, where the Coway air purifier was. Pretty much in 15-20 minutes with Coway purifier on high, our stuffiness eased and we could finally breath without straining, and our headaches and migraines lifted. Like magic. Allergy meds don't even work that fast sometimes. That was probably one of the very few times that we could actually compare the two air purifiers because it made such a huge difference. All the other days, our air upstairs and downstairs were usually both very equal and neither purifiers made much difference (to the point that made me feel like air purifiers are just myths sometimes, but obviously isn't). So, after 5 months of trying BOTH these products where both have very similar CADR, I came to the conclusion that I will be sticking the Levoit in an area that has the least traffic since it doesn’t help much for allergy-sufferers. As a purifier for smoke and odor, this is actually a pretty good one though. When I cook and this turns on, my house smells less – although it doesn’t completely eliminate the smell. In fact, neither the Coway nor the Levoit was able to completely eliminate smells (but that was not my concern at all). The best thing about the Levoit, and I feel is the biggest selling point, is that it’s Wifi-enabled for an amazing price. The app is so dang good and useful that you can set this to turn on 4 times a day at 1 hour every time (or however many times a day for however many hours you want!), or control it from across the world, or set it to turn on and clean the air right before you come home. It is so handy! Plus, it works really well with Alexa. And the auto sensors do actually work really well. At the end of the day though, my purpose for buying this were for allergies. Coway won in the area of purifying enough to help allergy-sufferers and auto-sensing. I don’t know how, but the sensors on the Coway are much more sensitive than Levoit’s; so sensitive, that opening a door activates Coway’s, while Levoit's sensors tells me that the air quality is still excellent. Now, I wasn’t here to review Coway at all, but I couldn't give a review of Levoit's air purifier without comparing the two. Looking at other people's reviews about how Levoit's air purifier helped with their allergies and such though, made me feel like either I got a defective device from Levoit, or our allergies are actually much more severe than the regular folks with allergies. Anyways, given that Levoit gave me no relief from my somewhat allergies in comparison to the other brand that I bought and tried at the same time, I will admit that I would probably not buy Levoit’s purifiers for myself ever again.

Best Air Filter I ever had
I have owned a lot of air filters, trust me, more than you have. This is by far my favorite one, 300 bucks isnt no joke, but its worth every penny. The replacement filter is 50-80 bucks, but ...it works so what is that value worth. The app is great, I have a schedule that runs it high all night in my bedroom and right before I wake up it changes to low, then after I go to work, high again. The ato adjust is nice, when it detects objects in the air it turns on higher (vaping make it increase its speed, thats new age smoking for the old people) As soon as I blow smoke in the room, the count gets higher, right away it knows something is in the air. Sleep mode and display off is nice as well, normally I have to put black tape over the display since I like my room blacked-out. I can read my filter even when I am not home since it is on my wifi. You will not be disappointed with this beast. I had it in the master room, but it moves so much air, I have been putting it just outside the bedroom door, it is capable of doing master room, hallway and another bedroom. I blew smoke in the other bedroom and about 20 seconds later, it registered.

Effective, Efficient, Nice App
It effectively moves air through the HEPA filter. The noise is that of a air moving but not the whining of a fast motor; quieter than a fan moving the same air as there is no beating from the blades. The charcoal part does remove oders and TVOCs but much slower than the HEPA removes dust. The room smells better overall but not in an hour of use. The TVOCs also slowly decrease over prolonged use but not quickly by any means. The app is fast, fully featured, and well designed. Sleep mode is very quiet but I can head a whining noise I assume is from the electronics or something rubbing. I can still easily use it while sleeping but it could be made even quieter. The ability to turn off the display is also amazing. This air purifier uses less than a dollar of power where I am using it 24/7 on half power (fridge runs $10 for example). Though the support for purchasing filters in Canada is not good thus far.

Very pleased with this! Would recommend!
Spent quite a while researching different options and glad I chose this one! Only had it a few days but it’s just what I needed! I live in a city centre flat and they only way to ventilate the living room is to open the balcony door but the room gets freezing, plus my partner vapes indoors and the kitchen/living room is open plan so cooking smells linger too and the room just ends up getting really stuffy! The air purifier clears the air perfectly, it’s like allowing lots of fresh air in without the coldness! Hopefully it’ll work in summer too to prevent hayfaver. The auto setting is great. I haven’t tried the sleep mode yet. It is also super quiet! You can’t hear it all when the tv is on and even when it’s off it only gives a slight whirring noise on auto. I could definitely sleep with it on. It’s easy to carry into different rooms with its little handles and it looks pretty good too. Wish I’d bought one sooner!

Well designed with excellent features.
This is a superb unit, well designed with an excellent feature set. Although a large unit, it's not too big, particularly given the amount of air it can process. It's well constructed, using high quality materials and very quiet in normal use. When it detects poor air quality it can be set to automatically increase the fan speed which, although noisier, is not excessive and soon reduces as the sensor detects the air quality improving. As a bonus, if you decide to use the app, it's easy to setup and provides a couple of extra functions. Finally, I had a minor problem with a rattle from the fan and had to contact Levoit customer support. Their response was friendly, timely and quite simply outstanding; I had a replacement unit within a week. Highly recommended.

Works well. Smart Features Useful. Bottom Plastic is Low Quality. Filters are Overpriced
I really like this device/appliance. It's highly rated by several publications that have actually tested its efficacy, and the provided smart features are really quite useful. The noise to airflow ratio is good, and the noise that it does produce, even at full power, is akin to "white noise", as there are no rattles or overly high pitched tones. It is not perfect, however. The base of the purifier, which also acts as the cap or cover that is removed for filter replacement, is made out of low quality plastic. While this may not matter for most, if you move the unit around frequently, I could see it eventually becoming damaged which would ruin the unit. It's a strange oversight, as the plastics used for the rest of its construction appear to be very good. The other shortcoming of this purifier is the high cost of replacement filters. Perhaps over time they will come down in price, but currently, in Canada, the replacement filters go for around $90. This to me seems a bit excessive. There are 3rd party filters available for a lower price, but their effectiveness is unclear. If Levoit could replace the bottom cover with something more substantial and reduce the cost of replacement filters, this purifier would be a 5 out 5.
