Buy two! In case they change it! You won't regret it!

No pics of my finish gun people. I can upload one soon if it really matters. I love the weight to power ratio of this gun. I use a smaller Senco hook on it at the fitting. The hook has slop to move from the left to right side depending on what I need. I've just had the hook for that long. Perhaps a step drill bit will help you get the desired diameter quicker than simply using it. Ok, back to the gun. I primarily shoot 2'' and 2-1/2'' Senco nails from my gun. I have no complaints. When I shoot into something and the nail jams and bunches up, the nose assembly is easy access to open and free the fouled up metal and reset the latch. Disconnect the air first! The air discharge port directional is easy to move to which ever 360 direction you need. I like the depth of drive adjustment as well, threads near the nose piece. There is a keeper for the rubber nose piece at the rear of the magazine near the air fitting if you need it off but want it close by. I had the same gun when they were gun metal with a red band around the firing pin housing (2004). This is my second red one in case Senco changes this gun and I can't get it anymore. I have a red one in service now. The firing pin broke on the '04 and I couldn't find a replacement for it so I bought a red one. I used it quite bit. Buy one, use it, take care of it, be safe, have fun with it! It will take care of you!

Great heavy duty finish nailer

I've used a lot of different nailers and the best of the best are Senco and Paslode. This 15 gauge Senco is great for door and floor trim, furniture work, exterior trim and even hardwoods. I've used it in 3/4 rock maple and ash trim and with the depth set properly, it sets the nail head perfectly. It's relatively light weight, packs a punch, has a swivel air inlet, isn't too fussy about air pressure and comes in a nice case. Anyone know why one of the Amazon "rating features" for items like air and power tools is invariably "sheerness"? It's a goofy feature to rate for a power tool. Just wondering.....

Senco 15ga Finish Nailer

I went with the 42XP and I am sure glad I did. It’s a light weight nailer which is simple to operate and handle. The functions are strategic forward and the ability to place the nose piece is easy and precise.

My favorite if it measures up to the old standard SFN 40

Bought this to replace my old Senco which was over $400 back then . Same great power and anti kickback design for a lot less money. Shoots 2 1/2 nails through oak flooring and treads with ease. I didn't like the new larger case but this fits into my old case with a slight modification and fits in my truck compartment best. If it remains durable like my other one which seldom had a fault until its recent hammer failure, then it will be a great satisfaction. Deceptive power from its weight and sound. I seldom drag the nose along the wood so seldom loose the rubber anti-mar tip but its nice to have a spare and a place to store them on the tool. If you get the habit of moving forward into the nose and resist dragging backwards it works perfectly and they last indefinitely.

Why did I wait so long?

I've wanted a finish nailer for years and finally got the Senco FP41XP. I just use it around the home and farm, and I've found that it works fine with an air bottle for a quick repair out in the back 40. I designed and built some Craftsman style lighting fixtures out of redwood sticks, basically, and the only way I could assemble it without splitting was with the Senco. The nails seem a bit expensive, but it's very easy and convenient to change sizes back and forth, no tools or adjustments required. Depth of seating is very consistent in different materials...surprisingly so, to me at least. It speeds projects up more than I would have thought - since I do most projects without a helper, I can hold the work randomly in place with one hand and "bam" it's fastened. There's no need to position and clamp for each fastening operation. Also, if you drive a few nails for just a temporary holding operation, it's easy enough to pry the fixture apart when needed, with only minimal holes in the work.

Trim carpentry benchmark finish nailer.

In my opinion, if you do trim carpentry, this is the gun. The senco brad nailer is okay, but this finish nailer is the benchmark. Antimar tip is amazing, no jams in a month of heavy heavy daily use. Oiless for simplicity. Use silicone dry lubricant spray to keep the slide moving when the dust inevitably slows it down frustratingly. This nailer helps me ensure a hassle free productive and safe workday.

Useful Nailer

While I prefer the Senco SFN nailers made in the 70's and 80's -- essentially hewn from solid blocks of aluminum without any plastic parts -- this Senco works well. The nose of our unit has to be pressed onto the work surface in a very specific way, or it won't fire. Not sure if that's an odditiy particular to our individual nailer, or a problem with all of them. We picked a nailer that would take 15 ga nails so it would work better with hardwoods. The fact that it's oil-less is a nice feature. The rubber grip is so-so, as it tends to lose its grip on the handle and starts spinning. We'll probably just remove it at some point. The gun has a convenient set-screw to dial in the nail depth. We did a video review of air tools on our blog that includes this unit. Happy nailing!

Overall good sofar

I've used the gun for about a week sofar. It struggles to fire DA style nails in hardie trim. My old hitachi doesn't mushroom hardie but this gun seems to no matter the setting. Full head individual nails seem to not be a problem at all into anything. I will update this as I go, I have a few interior finish jobs lined up.
