Good quality wheel locks

Ok, so this is my first time buying these. Before I could even put them on, I had one (1) of another set without the key on a car I just bought used. I tried to follow the Youtube videos of removing it without going to the dealer and thought initially that, wow these must be junk if they can be so easily removed. Initial attempt failed. Wow, ok mildly impressed. Tried buying a socket tool made specifically for removing wheel locks and busted regular nuts. That too failed, more impressed. Get to the dealer and they find a key for me. But in searching the many keys for these types of locks, the guy helping me told me about horror stories about removing these types of locks and that I should just get a regular OEM style lock set. After purchasing the appropriate key and getting home and successfully removing the one lock, I was able to install this set only to realize these are different than the one I had on the one wheel originally. I think I like the old one better because it had a sleeve on it to help prevent sliding a regular socket over the lock and forcing it off with pure friction. These don't have that. So only time will tell if they serve their purpose as a deterrent for theft and if they present any trouble to me as I'd had different brand different style wheel locks in the past that were a nightmare on a different car many years ago. But overall they look promising and look to be made of higher quality metal than the set I used many years ago.

Excellent Product

These locks are meant to perform a very simple task....to make sure that YOUR wheels and tires stay on YOUR car instead of ending up on someone else's. I bought these as a gift for my son whose BMW has a very costly set of wheels and tires. Probably on the order of $2-3,000 to replace. How can you go wrong by spending a measly $40 to protect them? I've seen several brands of wheel locks and these seem to be of a higher quality than most others. The packaging (blister pack) was easy to open and, for some reason, is actually re-usable. The instructions (if you actually need them) are clear enough and the suggestion to order a duplicate socket is a good one. If there's one thing that you don't want to happen it's to not be able to find the socket when YOU want to remove a wheel to change a flat or rotate your tires. Having a spare available can save you a potential headache....assuming that you don't forget where you put it. :-) Where to keep the socket is something of a dilemna. Obviously, it needs to be in the vehicle. Yet, a would-be thief, seeing the wheel locks, knows that the socket is in the vehicle. So, do you put it in the trunk, knowing that a determined crook can pop it open in about 5 seconds? I certainly wouldn't. Where I suggested my son put it makes it easily accessable but is not a place that a thief would look unless he was tearing the entire car apart. No, I'm not going to give away the hiding place, so just use your head and find one of your own which isn't obvious. The kit comes with a few stickers that show the serial number of the lock set. One is for sticking on the order form for the extra socket when you register with the manufacturer. An obvious temptation is to stick one somewhere on the vehicle which really isn't a good idea unless you're the kind of person who also gives out his social security number. :-)

Almost A MUST - Better Safe Than Sorry!

I've always owned unique vehicles with expensive custom wheels since I could drive. Wheel theft was often popular in my day; so at the advice of my mechanic friend who suggested "wheel locks" (decades ago) - I've always used them on all my cars. Flash forward to the the present; I'm no longer a "kid" and have since gone from owning Porsche's and street rods to a factory, sporty MCS R53 - and I use these wheel locks. While on a previous road trip - From my motel room, I was woken up in the middle of the night to the piercing sound of my car alarm. I rushed out to the parking lot to find a concrete block and some lug nuts laying next to my left front tire. Only the wheel lock was still in place.

Great product but!!!

Unless you are a USA or Canadian citizen you cannot register the key to enable you to purchase a replacement, a little bit disconcerting if you live in the part of the world I do. I managed to source a supplier of a key in Japan but the price for it was excessive so concentrated on contacting the manufacturer in USA. This was met with success and I was able to order a replacement key which is on the way to me now, although I sensed a wee bit of reluctance for them to do it, perhaps I was wrong!!! So buyer beware if you are looking to source a replacement key, maybe Amazon should be on board with this to sort the problem out. Typically excellent service from Amazon with this purchase.
