Great light

I love the way the light gradually changes from daylight to dusk to night mode it looks so natural, its a huge upgrade from my old light on a timer.

Great... for about a year.

I really loved (yes, past tense) this light. It is bright enough for planted aquariums, as long as not more than around 20 in. deep. I used mine in the back for taller background plants that reached the surface. I really like the variation of color and brightness, but the method to schedule this is downright primitive! Very difficult to figure out, and also to remember (if you ever need to change it). It is great once set, but you may need to hire NASA to set it for you. Again, LOVED the color, LOVED the brightness, able to work with the programming. However, after one year and two weeks, it died because of... water! We're not talking about dropping it into a tank. This is over an uncovered aquarium (so plants can grow out). The only exposure to water is the "popping bubbles" where the filter return water comes into the tank. Those popping bubbles leave moisture, and mineral buildup, on the tank glass and underside of this light. However, the high moisture and temperature fluctuations in the house appear to have allowed enough condensation in between the LEDs and the plastic "cover" (underneath the lights, shielding from the water), the it must have shorted the electronics. It suddenly (when I woke up yesterday) would only display the green lights, really dim, and flickering at that end, and no longer responded to the remote. I couldn't even turn it off and on. I have included pictures of my aquarium, as well as the "good" end of the light (underside, with LEDs), as well as the "bad" end of the light (where the water outlet was). For a light fixture marketed for planted aquariums, and made to fit on rimless tanks (which often have no lids), these should be MUCH more water resistant! I can handle the moisture and mineral buildup on the outside, and even would put up with diminished light from that, but it shouldn't fail. I don't think I can spend my money on another one, so I am not sure what to do. However, I really DID like this light's functionality and form factor a lot. If you keep this very dry, it should last, but you may have to stick with factory settings due to the confusing programability. Good luck!

Plant saver

We have 2 fresh water tanks , 55 and 110 gallon, with an natural plants. These lights have been amazing. What a positive impact on our plants. Red plants are the most difficult and we have beautiful red plants that are growing out of control. We utilize the 24 hour function and love it. Highly recommend!!

Great light, with a system that could be more user friendly

The light itself is awesome. The customizability is a wonderful feature that gives you pretty good control of brightness, color, and individual color intensities. The 24/7 timer is another great feature however with no integrated time clock that allows you to set the current time, it does get a little confusing. Setting up and customizing the timer is a little tricky as well but once you get it down it works just fine.

Great light, after a few adjustments.

Let me start by saying, I am more than happy with this light. I can already tell the difference in the growth rate of my aquarium plants since installing this light. The settings are quite easy to figure out, and the remote is a bonus. The only issue I have with this light is when it comes to the user-defined color programming on the 24/7 cycle. When using the pre-programmed cycle, the light worked as described with a break from 3 am until the light turns back on at 6 am. When I run the light using the custom settings option, the lights go off at 3 am but are right back on about five minutes later, not allowing any downtime at all. I am not sure if this is something with the unit I received, or if it across the board as I have not heard back from the manufacturer regarding my e-mail. In the end, I was able to overcome this by setting the 6 am setting to off, which begins the cycle shortly after 6, and allows for it to stay dark from the time I set for it. Other than that issued, I could not be happier with the light, though it has only been around a month I have had it. I will update this review if the need arises.

Decent light, but died 2 years in.

In general, I liked the light while it lasted. Control of the brightness and color is pretty neat but the presets are gimmicky- im not looking to give myself or the fish a seizure with the thunderstorm setting, for example. Was able to grow just about anything in my 20gal tall, from Monte Carlo to Amazon Swords, green to purple or red plants too. Substrate, ferts, and c02 were all needed, but this light made it happen. Unfortunately the light died after 2 years. Walked in one day and thought the thunderstorm setting was on but turned out their was a short somewhere and even after a self repair, the light only went back to about 10% brightness...if that. Finnex customer service had no interest in helping me troubleshoot, which is just disappointing. Overall a good light, though don't expect it to last too long. Would have given a higher rating if they had a better warranty and customer service.
