Good product, great for DIY'ers
While we are not typically Dewalt users we found this laser level to work really well for the job we needed it to do. It was very easy to setup right out of the box. However, I would have to agree with another reviewer that it does wobble when it is on a tripod so keep that in mind depending on the project you will be using it for. The 2,000ft distance the product claims to go is somewhat true, but it will depend on the environment you are in. If you are in a dark space this is mostly accurate, but if you are outdoors in the sunshine it's not going to be readable that far away. We are very satisfied with the quality of this product! As avid DIY'ers we have a new brand of tools to explore!

Cheaply made Plus SLOW SERVICE!!
On about the 5th use the laser would only spin intermittently. Called service center they said send it and they would check it out. We called them 3 weeks later and they said that they determined it was under warranty ( less than 6 months old ) and that it would be sent to the laser service center (Alabama) soon ....?????? FOUR weeks after that we received it back. Hey DEWALT ! I use(d) this in my business. We have put shims between the mount and the laser to keep it steady enough to use. In general very poor quality compared to my 18 volt machine I purchased over 15 years ago.

EASY TO USE
LOVE IT BUT WISHED I WOULD'VE GOTTEN THE MORE EXPENSIVE GREEN LASER FOR EASE OF SEEING IT.

Not impressed
So far I haven’t been impressed with this laser. The rugged cage around it is nice, but it creates some large “blind spots” because of the size of the plastic corner support pieces. Also, not sure if we got a bad detector, but it has been very unreliable, giving bad/inconsistent readings and has messed us up a few times. We now use an older detector from a different laser with this newer laser because we can’t trust the detector that comes with this one. The only benefit I can see of buying this laser over others is that you can use DeWalt batteries in it. Other than that, I’d go a different direction.

Do not purchase this laser
This laser is a piece of crap. It is not even a Dewalt product. Was delivered brand new out of calibration and has to be sent to a 3rd party repair shop and will be out of commission for 2-3 weeks according to Dewalt repair center. I would highly recommend not buying a laser from Dewalt. Very disappointing.

Apparently Not Perfect, But Also Apparently Pretty Close
I am absolutely new to this whole business of laser leveling so I will admit to being unable to provide a "pro review" that others might. So please take my "newness" into account.... I was very intrigued by this green laser because the product page advertised a 2,000 foot range (that would be more than enough for some projects I had in mind on my lot). Turns out that number wasn't true; it's actually 1,500 feet (with detector; 200 feet without). In the end, no big deal, 1,500 feet still works for me. Anyway, on to the product. I really like Dewalt's decision to box this laser in a T-Stak box. It nice to have a product box that works well with other boxes; yes, standardization is often really helpful! Being a standard size, it works well with the other T-Stak products I have already purchased (like theDEWALT DWST17806 TSTAK VI Deep Box and theDEWALT DWST17889 TSTAK Cart ) and will purchase. Inside, the box is really well organized (with one small exception: the battery sits too far down to easily grasp (simple fix: add a spacer so that the battery sits up a bit higher)). The kit is really quite expansive giving the buyer pretty much everything one could ask for but the tripod and the grade rod (I'm leaning toward theDEWALT DW0736 5/8-Inch 11-Threaded Flat Head Tripod and theDEWALT DW0734 13-Foot Construction Grade Rod ). What surprised me was that the kit doesn't come with a user manual; instead, you have to go online and download a .pdf version (it does come with some - to me - confusing "quick start" cards). To be fair, the user manual is also lacking if you're a newbie; it tells you about the unit, but very little about how to use the unit. Having read through the "quick start" cards, the user manual, and watching some videos online I have a better feel for this unit. Frankly, I'm not entirely sure of the full range of capabilities, but now I have a unit with which to learn. I will be readingMeasuring, Marking & Layout: A Builder's Guide (For Pros by Pros) , as well as some basic surveying materials. Speaking of videos online I found two to be exceptionally helpful. "Workshop Addict" has a GREAT review of the green edition of this laser (DEWALT DW079LG 20V MAX Green Rotary Tough Laser ). The other video is by "Pro Tool Reviews." One of the things that I wondered about is how easy it is to use a rotary laser indoors. Turns out it's relatively easy, but something didn't seem quite right to me (in other words, easy perhaps for a pro, but not necessarily easy for a newbie like me). "Pro Tools Reviews" provides a great explanation as to why a rotary laser could be used but also why a cross line laser might be better (especially for someone like me). So perhaps once I start moving indoors I might look to use theDEWALT DW088K Self-Leveling Cross Line Laser rather than this reviewed rotary laser. In the end, it seems that professional users really love this laser. It turns out that newbie types like myself can like it too. Perfect? No (for instance, "Workshop Addict" points out that using the bracket to put the laser on a tripod loses the plumb line feature). But it is apparently pretty close (and reasonably priced as far as these things go). I also don't know if I see much of a difference at this point to justify spending $350 more for the green rotary laser (or $160 more for the green cross line laser). I've heard some folks claim the Bosch line is better, but I have no basis by which I can consider the claim. At this point I'm very happy going Dewalt. I think I'm going to have a great time learning about and using this laser (and accessories).
