It got the job done.

I had to reach the snap ring that held the bushing into the mid section of an outboard motor. It was deep inside and my regular snap ring pliers couldn't even get close. I read the reviews others posted about the lack of sturdiness and failure. I hoped my need was not going to be too stressful for them as I needed the long reach in a narrow access point. Well, they worked and I got the job done. However, I do see the lack of sturdiness in them and know they just aren't the right thing for big heavy rings or perhaps those rusted or corrode into the groove. Also the snap ring was almost impossible to keep on the tips under pressure. It was like the tips needed a bit more angle to hold the ring on. My Channel lock pliers hold rings very well. Every time I compressed the ring with these it popped off the tips. I made it work and know it would have cost a fortune to have a shop do it so all in all it saved money and time.

Professional pliers set at a great price

Full disclosure: I LOVE Gearwrench tools. I first started with these x-beam hinged wrenches my father bought while working on an old car. they were amazing. That got me to get my own set, but a much smaller and less expensive set on sale. As soon as I saw these, I knew I wanted to get them. they are great. The case is simple plastic and can be thrown away if you want, or put inside a tool drawer for easier storage (and to tell when a tool is not where it should be). For the price, you get some great quality products that work really well, and feel really good in your hands. The weight is nice and balanced, and the grips are easy to hold. The adjustable wrenches slide smoothly and do not catch like my old craftsman pliers. I highly recommend.

Gear wrench 82110 snap ring tool set

the 82110 snap ring tool set arrived promptly and in good condition. I needed to go through a three inch hole in one side of a gear box to release a three inch snap ring nine inches away on the opposite side. The tool was barely long enough, and I barely had enough strength in my hand to operate it; but "barely" was good enough and I got the job done. The tools appear to be good quality; but they WILL rust; at least in the joints. I suspected as much, because of some previous reviewers statements. I shot some WD 40 in the joints and worked them. Very rusty oil came out. I am satisfied with the tools, but they really should be provided with a reasonably good container. Those small parts will get lost.

Good Pliers - poor packaging

I bought these pliers for a friend for Christmas. The first package arrived and one of the pliers had a bit of surface rust - I'm sure some oil would have wiped it away however being a gift I requested a replacement which arrived almost immediately (nice job Amazon!). The pliers themselves are awesome in comparison to C-man as well as many other store and budget brands. I've had a C-man set for many years (sockets and wrenches also) and am transitioning into GearWrench products as they have all been great quality thus far. How they feel in your hand is extremely solid and durable: - the pliers are larger than most providing better leverage for gripping, clipping or pulling - grips are large and very heavy duty (I doubt they will come off in my lifetime of primarily at home use) - the tray is pretty durable (it does NOT have an open back it is solid) and can easily be used in a box drawer pending space (it is pretty large - use shipping dimensions as an approximation) Overall I like GearWrench products quite a bit (I have 3/8 & 1/2 socket sets - they feel incredibly solid and smooth compared to store brands and C-man) and these are another good value. I will be getting myself a set soon.

They're ok, I guess. Didn't work for me, not their fault.

So, I really wanted this review to be more about Amazon than the tool, but that really isn't a cool thing to do. So, the tools themselves aren't bad, they come with a very nicely packaged set of other tips, as well as 2 each of the small set screws that hold the tips in. The construction is not bad, feels sturdy enough, the tips are surprisingly resilient. The main issue with them is the set screws. DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT overtighten the set screws. I put them in by finger, using the very tip of my finger to "spin" the screws in until they felt tight, then I grabbed one of the two included allen keys and put a bit more on it. Now, I can't stress this enough, I'm really not a strong man, and I really did not put a lot of force on it, I put what I thought was the needed amount to hold the tip in place and just like that...stripped the screw. I was bummed out, but I figured I could fix it, maybe grab the next size allen key up from that...nope, made it worse. I thought, no way I put that much torque on it, I barely even turned it. Better check the other side for prosperity, maybe put the wrench on it, see how it feels in...stripped that one too. The screws suck. Amazon is awesome. Here's why, my boss paid for these. Now, he happens to be out of town at the moment, and we received them when he was gone. I broke them within 20 minutes of owning them. I called the place we purchased them from originally, for $65.00, plus shipping. I was panicking because, frankly, I did not want to spend that much money out of pocket to replace a tool that will most likely just get ruined the next time someone tries to use it. Check Amazon..oh sweet lord yes, they have it. They have it cheaper, and Prime Available. So I ruined the first set at about 11:30 in the morning on Thursday. Boss is back in the office on Monday. Panick mode set it, found on Amazon Thursday around 2:00 in the afternoon. Arrived in the office Friday morning and for less than half the price of the first set. Amazon, if I could upvote you on Reddit I would do it until I passed out. You made it possible for me to quickly and cheaply correct a stupid mistake I made and keep everyone in the dark about it. Until they read this review. Good lord I hope no one breaks this tool and then checks Amazon to see if there is a cheaper solution....I can delete this later right? Right Amazon?

Quite good quality.

GearWrench produces some very good and some quite so so quality. These are ok for the price. Not at all bad but could be a little better.
