Yes, she recommended a jar key (not this brand specifically), but a jar key. It was in one of her instructional videos, and on her recommendation, I bought this. I am so happy I did! It works so easily - hardly any effort at all, I have struggled with other jar openers, this is my favorite. Unfortunately doesn't work on wider brim lids, but works fantastic on most lids. I love it. Works on Mason jars if you take the screw ring off and use it on the sealed lid part. Just get it!

I have arthritis and it is very difficult to open jars. I stumbled upon this tool and was so impressed by it that I ordered a complete set which I then distributed to my friends. Everyone is amazed at how easy it is to open jars using the jerky I highly recommend it for anyone with arthritis.

Actually Works!!!

To my great surprise this insignificant looking gadget actually works. Opening a brand new jar has been a challenge until now. This little red gizmo has made jar opening quick and easy. As I am elderly with arthritic hands I especially appreciate my new best kitchen gadget. So happy that I purchased this item. Did I mention that it doesn’t damage the jar lids? My pickle and Jam jars are very happy as am I.

Really works!

I have Arthritis in my hands which makes it impossible to get lids off of jars with suction. This little gadget takes no pressure at all. Just put it under the lip of the lid and slightly pull up. Pop! Just like that the lid is loosened. I gave the second one to my Brother who has the same problem. He loves his too! Ten stars!

Your hands not as strong as they used to be (like mine are)? Arthritis? Jars just seem impossible to open? I promise this is for you!!! My Mom bought this for me because she was so impressed with it. At the time I was young and dumb (my hands were strong and didn't hurt). I gave her gift away. Then as I got older, I started having trouble opening jars and wished I had kept it. I bought another one and dang... it is a miracle how easy this thing works!!! I have probably bought 20 more for my friends & family. Trust me, you (and your hands) will be so glad you got yourself one!

Works great

After my husband died I was unable to open numerous jars and had to throw or give away food in jars I couldn't open even with other more expensive "jar openers". I bought several to give to friends who had similar problems opening jars.

This really works!

I love how easy it is to open jars of food using this tool to break the vacuum seal! Can't tell you how often I've bought a jar of pickles, spaghetti sauce, salsa, etc. and just couldn't get it open without a major struggle. Sometimes my husband and I would have to work together to loosen the cap on a sealed jar and still not always succeed. Now, using this tool to break the seal, it's EASY! It seems incredibly safe as I've never damaged the jar while using it.

I originally purchased one of these after breaking my wrist and not being able to get into jars - a simple tool but amazing - works perfectly. Then my father who has arthritis tried it and was really impressed - so he'll be getting one for Christmas as well. Definitely recommend!
