Although it does work, if you have any sort of flex in your layout you can probably expect to have several occurrences of shorting out or lost contact in the course of a few minutes. Not the easiest to design a layout with the 90-degree crossing and the commonly sized track sections. It's fine for an older or experienced user, but definitely not for 1st-time or younger users.

This works fine.
This adds a very little bit of noise as the cars go over but it works just fine. I didn't use the 4 extra pieces because it would have made my layout too large so I'm glad they are separate and just an option vs being a larger single piece.
