Amazing offering from Sideshow/Threezero
I am not the biggest 1/6th scale collector, but this stood out to me ever since the first promo images were released. I am new to the whole Court of The Dead line but I already like it and see a lot of potential in it. This is one of two sideshow/Threezero collaborations for Court of The Dead, the other being Malavestros. I was excited for the line as I am not the biggest fan of statues or the price tags that they have. This figure is very large, being at least a head over most 1/6th scale figures. The amount of detail is incredible throughout but truly shines in the armor. Every piece is sculpted with various artistry, mostly consisting of skulls. The legs and back are all done nicely even though you likely won’t even see most of them. The weapons are also done well, especially the sword. The articulation is also well done. Every limb besides the vestigial arm has a double bend and the ankles can pivot very far to allow many dynamic poses. Additionally, the joints are quite tight, but not to the point that you would worry about breaking them. Getting this figure to stand is fairly easy and it doesn’t feel as if it might fall, which is good because Threezero/Sideshow do not include a stand. That brings me to the few gripes I do have for the figure. Other than the stand, the cape is kind of finicky when it comes to staying on the figure, but not to a serious degree thankfully. Also, the normal hands do seem to detach a bit too easily. Lastly, my sword had a slight bend to it out of the package, though I think heating it up may straighten it out. Honestly, there aren’t too many apparent negatives other than that and none of them are deal breakers to me. Also, if you are curious about how they got three arms to work on one shoulder, the small one has a ring that can move up or down but not side to side while the normal arm has a hinge and rotation joint connected to the large arm. You obviously can’t move the middle arm all the way up but you can move it up more than you would probably expect. The robes consist of a fairly thin semitransparent cloth that has thicker flaps over it that posses wires for posing. The cloak/cape is thicker than the main layer of cloth but not as thick as the flaps and also has a wire, though it is not as usable considering that it only runs through the outer sections while the cloak itself is very large. The hood is also wired. Lastly, the mail portion of the armor is also cloth. It is threaded and has a silver color to it to simulate mail while not really hindering the articulation in any meaningful way. All in all, I was not expecting to be blown away as much as I was. Despite not owning the previous figure (Malavestros), after seeing both next to each other, I cannot believe their is only a $50 price difference considering the amount of detail Demithyle has as well as the fact that he is almost twice the height of Malavestros. I would highly recommend this figure even for the retail price and I would love for this level of quality in future efforts if we ever get them.
