All about the Base!

Good product, but one important thing to know ...

I got this stern light base to replace one in my boat which we've managed to snap off on July 4th each of the past two years (driving after dark to view fireworks + terrible location of the stern light on my boat = snapped base). This item is an exact OEM replacement for the light on my boat and I couldn't be more pleased with that HOWEVER none of the other reviews noted that some electrical work is going to be required - it's not just plug and play. The stern light base that snapped off of my boat had a small connector built into it by the boat manufacturer and this item just comes with two wires, one black and one white. Ultimately (after speaking with some kind folks who are more knowledgable about boat wiring / electrical work in general, than I am) we cut the wires attached to the old base, preserving the connector my boat OEM had installed, and then used some butt connectors (red ones because this wire is 18 gauge) to connect the wires from new unit to the old wires on the connector. We were then able to reconnect the new stern light base to the connection already in the boat, test it out and then screw this new stern light base into place where the old one had been (again, SUPER easy since it's literally the same thing). Overall, we spent ~$30 on this part and ~$6 on a value back of electrical doodads including the butt connectors which is a HUGE savings over the hundreds we would've spent having our boat mechanic do this simple job. And that's great. It just took a little time for this electrical novice to figure out how to do what needed to be done.

Not quite a direct replaecment

It was supposed to be a direct replacement for my old fixture. Its a slight bit smaller and barely covers the old hole. Its functionally the same size and works on 2 pin poles. Being Perko I was hoping for a direct replacement but they have changed the design and obsoleted the old version.

Direct replacement, easy to install

Broke the pins in mine on my Yamaha AR230. This was an exact fit for replacing with just 3 screws and 2 wires. Easy 5 minute fix.

The bottom broke out of the Perko Pole Light Base in my 2005 boat. 14 years, I'm OK with that. I replaced the chrome piece off the top of the new base with the one from the base that had broken. Thicker metal, more polished edges.

An exact replacement

Bought this to replace the exact same Part on my 17 year old Bass Boat simply because I could find the rubber cap anywhere. Perfect fit and match to the other base I have at the stern. Should last as long as the one I replaced (17 years old) since the material is exactly the same. The previous cap failed because a gang of squirrels gnawed on it during last winter storage. I contacted a local hawk that needed to feed his family to take care of the rodents so PETA wouldn't set up picket lines at my house, so I expect to get 15 plus years out of this new cap.
