This is a beautiful, comfortable bag that has some odd features and is missing a few necessities. There are two main compartments in this bag, with a larger clothing area in the front and a thinner office area in the back. For most travel/luggage uses, the front should be thicker than it is for more clothing storage and the back should be even thinner. I have an eBags Mother Lode (or Load? Always forget which one they picked), and I thought this would be like an outdoorsy version of that bag, but it's not. The Marmot is significantly smaller (28L backpack size, not carry-on) and less flexible in some ways. The eBags carry-on has internal dividers that you can clip up or flatten out to customize the bag for your needs, and this bag would be 100 times better if they'd gone that route instead of having two separate compartments. Right now it just doesn't fit with many travel styles. It's too big and rigid for daypack/commuter use, and doesn't have the necessary features (like a waist strap or adequate bottle pouch), but it's too small for holding enough stuff to travel several days with unless you bring another bag, which sort of defeats the purpose of this bag having space for clothes. I was thinking about bringing it on my next trip to California, but almost every other bag I own holds more stuff, fits in smaller areas, is lighter and works for more activities. This bag doesn't have a waist strap or a trolley sleeve, so although it's comfortable for shorter amounts of time, its convenience and versatility are diminished once you're off the airplane. I don't really understand the rationale of the bag. It isn't great for carrying on day excursions due to the feature set and large clothing compartment, but if you're meant to bring a daypack for day trips in addition to this, then the office section doesn't make sense. You'd have to load all your pens and notepads and cables and whatnot into all the little pockets before you fly/travel, then transfer it to the daypack again when you arrive. Either that or you can leave the stuff in this bag, but then you're carrying around a bag full of gear and clothes when you go to Disneyland or wherever. It's just a really specific setup that doesn't seem to match most people's travel styles. Anyway, despite all that, it's a beautiful bag. Obviously the bag will suit the needs of some people more than others, and this bag will no doubt serve those people very well for many years. It's a tank. The materials and craftsmanship are superb. The bag has shaped shoulder straps with a sternum strap that adjusts quite a bit vertically and widthwise. As a tallish curvy person with narrower shoulders, I have a hard time fitting most shoulder straps, especially wide, rigid, straight ones, but these are great. They could be a little closer together for me but they work. The sternum strap is sufficiently adjustable and keeps the straps in place without distorting them. Again I'd really like a waist strap, because the bag is heavy and the stuff I have in it is heavy. Without a trolley sleeve, you'll probably be wearing the heavy bag through the airport and to your accommodations, so why isn't there a waist strap?! Even though the office section is thin, I've gotten a bunch of stuff into it. I keep my stuff in cute zippered pouches so it will stay organized and so I can move it easily from bag to bag. These pouches stow easily in the office section without requiring me to load and unload all of the little pockets when I switch bags. I carry a little 18650 fan and it tucks into a pocket. There's room for my tablet and laptop as well. I guess you could load clothes into the office area too if you really needed to. The main clothes area holds a decent amount of stuff (especially if you use cubes or compression bags). I can fit a few outfits into it plus some, and I'm a 2x in women's, XL in men's. It would be a good spot for outerwear or a couple hoodies that you need on arrival, or that don't fit into your main luggage. There are two vertical zippers on the front that open to two tall pockets. I think they're for shoes or similar items, to keep your other stuff clean.
