Chinese fixtures improving, but still have problems

This is an attractive lamp, but it does not act like a flush mount in that light escapes around the base and causes an uneven light ring around the outside of the base. The shade assembly does not fit against the backing plate, but is a bit outside it. Thus light escapes through that space and there is light showing around the outer aedge. If the light pattern was even, it would look better, but it isn't. The backing plate is flimsy and sags unevenly around the edges and so the light pattern is uneven. I drilled three holes in the plates and installed three drywall anchors in the ceiling. Then I attached to the plate to the anchors and reduced the light ring and it is more even, but not entirely so. Even with a perfectly flat ceiling (mine is bumpy; a popcorn ceiling would be much worse), some light would escape. Chinese light fixtures have improved greatly since they first appeared in the US, but they still are inferior in unusual ways. I can live with this, but would prefer vendors test Chinese fixtures for problems like this before they are sold. Otherwise, quality is far superior to 10 or 15 years ago.

Great light. Very nice style. But, I had to add two additional cap nuts to the base so the fixture would be flush with the base. The fixture sagged with only to attachment points. If you weren't a DIY you would have to send it back.
