Very Nice
This is basically two bowls tightly nested together. I guess they consider the slightly smaller one a “mug“ but it is basically two bowls of the same shape. The lid fits tightly on the smaller mug and makes a tight seal for drinking out of. And the lid fits a little bit looser on the bigger bowl perfect for keeping heat in while food is rehydrating. Light weifht as advertised.

Perfect for rehydrating meals
I bought this to have a bowl in which I can mix DIY dehydrated meals with boiling water. The cover, insulation and double walls trap the heat and help rehydration. The cover snaps on (not very tightly, but there's a definite click as it seats) to provide protection against spills. The plastic of the container cleans up really well. I have no idea if there's any functional difference between the orange and blue versions of this, but the orange one cost less and I like the color better, so that's what I bought. It can be a little difficult separating the bowl from the outer shell, so I put a folded portion of a paper towel into bottom of the shell to keep the two pieces from pressing too tightly together, and that has worked well. A really nice product that does everything right.

Bigger than the nesting set.
I have the GSI Dualest cookware set with the 2 nesting bowls+cup. We’re going on a trip soon and our room mate is joining us so we bought a third set for him. I ordered this one and when we got it, realized it’s a lot bigger than the set we have. Works out for us though, because he eats twice as much as us (thanks to his great metabolism) so it al works out! For what it’s worth though, I’ve back packed with this system before and I LOVE it

Worked great
I just used this for a trip to Mount Evans and it worked perfectly. I really struggled with the idea of not having a "real" mug, but honestly if you are looking to save space this one works quite well. It's nice to use both pieces together when you really want to isolate something hot. It is big enough to make hot tea and share with your friend. I was able to fit various little items inside such as soap, wipes, salt, and the MSR spork. My brother had a smaller version that came with a kit and he accidentally let it fall to the ground in the cold and it cracked, so be aware of that, not saying it's weak. Nice to drink hot liquids from as opposed to titanium. No noise clanking too.

Why are these so hard to find?
These bowl sets are great and were the final piece I needed for my own DIY backpacking mess kit. They fit like a glove into my MSR 1.1L stowaway pot, and I store other eating items inside of the bowls as well. The insulation is a good idea as well as the combo strainer/cup lid. The plastic bowls are obviously lightly constructed but they should last a long time. And all these items fit compactly into a single unit. These sets are included in a lot of complete mess kits offered by GSi, but I wasn't going to get stuck with a bunch of extra stuff that I didn't want. Luckily amazon was one of the few places I found that sold these separately, and they are very reasonably priced. None of my local outdoor stores, which all sell tons of other GSi products, sold these.

Great bowl
I highly recommend GSI products I use them daily and they are always up to the task these bowls are no exception they are durable and packable.

Pictures different to product
The picture shows a sleeve going around the whole bowl but in reality it's a thin strip going around the sides which I doubt would do anything to help with insulation. I'd be happy the same thickness of the strip just make it go around the whole bowl
