An Excellent & Needed Product.
Eco Friendly products that work very well and serve a dual purpose are needed today. This straw does both very well, functionality & purpose. We operate a very busy and happening restaurant and these veggie straws play their role as good as any conventional straw made from oil. So we are 100% satisfied and will continue to order them moving forwards. Amazon please carry more Eco products like this. How about cups and lids for juices, shakes & coffee & tea...!? Pleeeeease!

Excellent alternative to plastic straws
I really was surprised at how well constructed these straws were. Compared to a traditional plastic straws, they are more rigid. They will crush and break if you squeeze them repetitively (a few times). Imagine if all the major fast food places would use these straws? It would be a great first step to being environmentally responsible.

it splits
I'm an end-user, a customer of a coffee shop that uses these straws. They split after a few minutes, especially near the mouth end. Result: you're sucking air instead of coffee. However I understand a huge number of these end up being tossed in the garbage, so I guess it's better to use them than plastic.

You can barely open the package without these splitting. You have to open 5 to get one usable one. There is no heat as the original responses indicate as it is 17 degrees here.

"Compostable" does not mean it goes away.
"Compostable" is NOT Biodegradable -- compostable need very specific conditions and very few of these straws actually get to a composting facility. Biodegradable is what truly disintegrates eventually, naturally and without need for special facilities and processes.
