It's a board, or is it a plank?
Doesn't do tricks, or anything. It does what a board should. It stays boardy. It weighs what you would think a 24 in by 8 in board should weigh. Description says it's birch. Birch is not as hard as maple (most other wood boards are maple) therefore it should be less dense and therefore lighter. (OK, yes, I spent too much time thinking about this board.) Slipperiness is OK. Could be better. One more layer of polyurethane wouldn't break Drive Medical. At $33 it's overpriced, but all these transfer boards are. The proportions on the picture are not correct. The shorter board (24 in, that I bought) is about 1/3 narrower than shown.

Perfect Slideboard for my Needs
As a result of an accident which pinched my cervical spinal cord severely in two places, I am now using a power chair to get around. I cannot transfer from my chair to my bed or vice versa unless I use a slide board. I have found that method the safest way for me to transfer. This slide board fits my needs perfectly. The hand holds are well-placed, and the wood is thin, but sturdy. The price was also reasonable. I am very happy with this product.

Slide Board
My husband used this type of board in the nursing home and it seems to be very comparable to that. He came home one day only to be rushed to the hospital so it is hard to really rate anything medical I purchased for him since he isn't home as yet. But these boards make transferring from the bed to the wheelchair and the wheelchair back to the bed easy. They also trained him to go from the bed to the commode. Makes it much easier on the caregiver too.

SHATTERED BOTH MY FEMURS LAST CHRISTMAS AND COULD NOT STAND ON MT FEET FOR 6 MONTHS. WHEN I STARTED TO USE THE BOARD I THOUGHT I CAN'T DO THIS BUT I DID AND IN JUST A DAYS I WAS LIKE A PRO. Great for medical needs when you can't walk. Don't know what I would have done without my slide board.

wood transfer board
very thin and very slick. my only regret is the hand grip hole placement. my previous board had a hole in the center of the board and 90 degrees out from the ones shown. I find myself constantly grabbing for it. :( otherwise a great value!

don't buy.
the bevel on one end was not properly sanded. the therapist showing us how to use it properly got a splinter from along the edge.

Poorly finished on the ends = rough and splintery
The pictures are misleading - this board is made of layers of wood laminated together, and on the short edges (the ones that go under your leg when you're transferring), they're planed down and very rough. One of the edges on the one I got was OK, but the other was a mess, and I can easily see that I'd get splinters and scratches in my leg from using it. Life is way too hard already for amputees and mobility impaired people to deal with a poorly made board. This one's going back.
