Hi End Finishes & Features; Well-Made Watch !

Prior to choosing this Bulova Men's Classic Calendar watch, I devoted many hours to searching and reading reviews for many other time pieces. In the end, this Classic Bulova watch had all of the features I was looking for: Understated classic design, a functional date window, a sweep second hand, a deployment bracelet clasp, subtle, yet interesting "hardware" details around the outer edge of the case, and that Blue coloration around the circumference of the dial, combined with the same matching, yet subtle Blue within the face itself. The Bulova name was also a major consideration. The bracelet (band): I was instantly impressed with the (significant) weight of the bracelet; the links appear to be solid, if they are not, one could not tell. The fit and finish of the bracelet itself is very high-end. Clearly, Bulova's finishing techniques show in and around the bracelet and case itself; no burs, no uneven edges, a solid piece of machining and Quality Control indeed! Overall, this piece is substantial. It is weighty yet manageable. (I will need at least two links removed for a good fit on my 7-1/2" wrist.) I found the stem cover quite interesting. Held in place with two machine screws to prevent inadvertant rotation of the crown; a very nice touch although somewhat of a time consuming process when setting the correct date. I doubt that Bulova intended to have the protective cover removed so using thumb and forefinger, turning the stem many, many times finally got me to set the correct date. Frankly, I would still have purchased this time piece with the crown cover. (As a side note, the sweep second hand perfectly lines up with each minute marker as it moves about the circumference of the watch.) The 316L SS material shows very well on this piece combined with the fine polishing job. Noticeable is the indented case back which will accept a jewelers spanner wrench for unscrewing the case back. I wanted this feature to avoid having the case back scratched should a jeweler need to pry open the back without having the indents. The iconic "tuning fork" emblem is no longer displayed on the watch dial. However, upon closer inspection, a very small version of same can be seen on the face of the crown cover. Also, the face of the deployment band shows a larger representation of the "tuning fork" icon. With regard to the Blue coloration; the Amazon details mention the color Blue yet the ordering text calls the watch Black. The narrow ring about the watch face appears Black. However, when light is shown upon it, it appears Blue; ditto for the watch face. I found this interesting but this does not negate my review for this time piece. Occassionally, Amazon decides to describe certain items the way they want regardless of what it looks like in real time. In the end, this is a very handsome watch, substantial, well made and finished, and is one of the most attractive watches I have ever purchased; it is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. (I did not rate Water Resistance since I received it just now. Also, there is NO Timer Function.)
