Bath tub grab bar install project

Summary: Adding a few grab bars to dad's shower. I used a lot of products for this project, so including all related products in this review. Recommendation: 1) When mounting grab bars, it's always easier if you can find the stud to attach to. In this vertical install, I decided to use a stud and Wing-Its anchors; partially because I wasn't sure I could hit both, and didn't want to put two fasteners vertically (on either the right or left only), but that would also position the bar in the shower a little too far in (towards the shower control). 2) The WingIts requires a 3/4" hole through the mounting material. For tile, this can be especially challenging. I used the SHDIATOOL diamond 3/4" bit, with the DRILLAX adapter to get through the tile, and then used the 3/4" BOSCH bit to finish through the dry wall. Also used the BOSCH bits for the other small hole. Having the right tool for the job is the difference between project completion, and a messy, disaster. LOVE this stud finder

I've always found electronic stud finders frustrating. Half the time I can't tell if it's right, they always have batteries in them that are dead when you need them, so I decided to look at magnetic stud finders to see if I liked those better. Turns out, I'm a huge fan of them. I particularly like this magnetic set because it comes with 3 markers (the two green ones and the main base). The base itself is big enough I don't have problems finding nails in the studs, and then I pop out a green marker and use the base to find another one to get a good bead on the full stud. It's nice and compact, the markers sit on the base, and I NEVER have to worry about a dead battery when I need to find a stud again.

BEST Stud finder - EVER

I saw this on Chop busters and give it a chance. Holy you know what, can this find the studs. With is magnetic design, if you can local a screw/nail in drywall, you can find a stud. This makes it easy to draw a line, with two removal clips that you leave on the wall, find the next, and with a simple ruler/level/laser level, you can draw a line on your stud. This compliments my Stud Finder, but does not replace it, just yet. Only issue is were the builder has placed a full sheet of metal behind the drywall covering water/hvac areas. But hey, the magnetics find it all.

Needs stronger magnets

The other reviewers who gave this 5 stars must have gotten a previous version with stronger magnets. The one I got doesn't really pick up the drywall screws. I have some earth magnets from a previous project and they find them just fine, so the concept is sound, just need stronger magnets to make it work.

Very useful

The magnet inside all 3 parts is strong enough to hold it upside-down on a ceiling of 5/8 drywall on the screws, and you can leave it there... just take care not to forget it and walk away, like I have done many times. It's also far more accurate than an electronic stud finder, and you can stick it to your leg if you are carrying anything metal in your pocket, without any fear that it might come off somewhere.

Strong magnets, but doesn't find studs

This only finds nails in the studs and since the wall is glued to the studs this doesn't do a very good job. It's a good magnet don't get me wrong, but for the purpose of what I wanted it for, it didn't work and had to resort to an actual stud finder device.
