Ok so here goes another review. Hopefully this will help all users willing to dive into this lock. First I have to say that as for the Smart Lock 3rd gen goes, the unit is absolutely well built. Super solid and installs great. The auto unlock and auto lock feature works amazing. Love it. But sadly there is always a down side. So here is the down side. 1). The August Wi-Fi connect is just horrible. I connected it to the lock no problem but trying to add it to google home was just a nightmare. Added the device in google home and it did not work. Removed it from google home and tried to add it again, nothing. Did not even show up anymore but said it was successful. After hours of trying to unlink and link it in google home. I decided to reinstall the august connect from the reset to pairing it to the lock again. Bingo the device finally decided to show up in google home. Tried to contact august and spent 1.5 hours on hold with no one answering. Just gave up. There is no customer service. Be WARNED !!!!!!! you are on your own. 2). The Bluetooth range on the august Wi-Fi connect it really really bad. Once installed it shows good signal but after a while it always reports bad Bluetooth signal to the lock even with it right next to the lock. That is if the signal strength check works. Most of the time it just says fetching!!! Super bad. Crappy hardware. 3). In order to get the lock status over Wi-Fi (august connect), you always need to hit the Wi-Fi symbol next to the lock status circle. That is a bit of a pain. Worse, if you leave home and you are at a remote location, checking the status, it tries Bluetooth and fails and then you have to hit the Wi-Fi symbol to get the status. Why do you need to do that, the app is aware of the location so it knows you are not at home, so why bother with Bluetooth? just use Wi-Fi period, don’t bother with Bluetooth. Simple enough? August please change that in the app. 4). One bug that is really annoying is that for some reason, if you are away from home, sometimes the remote access via Wi-Fi just does not work. You can try and try hitting the wifi button but nothing. It says cannot connect. But if you kill the app via android (force it to stop in background) then relaunching it and checking the status over Wi-Fi works instantly. So it is not the august connect but the android app that is just messed up. FIX This please!!!!!! Should not have to kill the app and restart. But once restarted, it continues to work until you get home. So something in the transition from home to away messes up the android app. But the auto unlock part still works, just not the remote status via Wi-Fi until you kill the app and relaunch it. Super pain in the backside. Come on august, clean up your product. 5). Now the Google home integrations is horrible. You need to say “OK google, talk to august” Then you get a man’s voice and need to ask him the status of the lock. Really? Why can it not be integrated with Google assistant? Why do you need to talk to another assistant? Please fix that. Integrate it better. I have Chinese products that are way better integrated into Google Home without having to do all these round about to get the status of my lock. August, hire a crack programmer that knows what he is doing and rework the google home part. That is if you want to have a great product in the market. Almost everyone will eventually integrate this to Alexa or Google Home. So at the very least, IMPROVE IT, IMPROVE T, IMPROVE IT. So as it stands, the lock hardware is great, the August Wi-Fi connect hub is just trash. The August home app is full of bugs and the Google Home integration is poor at best. That also needs to be redone. But if they fix all that, this could be the lock for everyone. Customer service is NON existent. So if you are a bit technically challenged, forget customer support. There is none unfortunately. I guess no one explained to them that what makes a product is great customer support. But I guess they missed that all together. Love that auto unlock feature. So maybe eventually this could be a great product. Just fix the Bluetooth, Wi-Fi connect and app and one day you will be at the top of the heap. This product is almost $ 300.00 CDN. People want what they pay for, a great product. That is my two cents.
